Many dedicated practitioners will tell you that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or BJJ, is the best martial art and the best self-defense in the world. In this documentary Find out all about BJJ – what it is, how it works, what it takes to become proficient, as well as what competition looks like, and more.
I was very pleased to help my friend Catie Foertsch of Yes! MediaWorks on her passion project, coming onboard as Director of Photography on this documentary.
Since I know all the geeks and gear junkies are going to ask, I shot the film on my Canon 60D DSLR with a Canon 24-105mm f4L Zoom lens, with a handful of wider shots captured with the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 ultra-wide. I used 500w equivalent fluorescent light kit for the interview shots, and utilized natural light for everything else.
We had alot of fun shooting this over the course of several weekends, and I learned alot about the sport and the participants, including the different reasons people come to the sport, and what BJJ means to them.
I hope you enjoy watching this documentary as much as I enjoyed working on it!
